Cutting Chart

The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here.

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A —From 4 3/4" x 32" strip, cut four 2 3/4" squares

Fabric B —From 1 1/2"-wide strip, cut four 1 1/2" x 2 3/4"pieces

Fabric C —From 4 1/2"-wide strip cut four 2 3/4" squares, one 1 1/2" square

Fabric E —From 3 3/4"-wide strip, cut four 3 1/4" squares ( each cut once diagonally )

Fabric F —Holly appliqués

Fabric G —From 4 3/4"-wide strip, cut four 2 3/4" squares

Fabric I —From 1"-wide strip, cut two 1" x 7" pieces, two 1" x 6" pieces

Lightweight Fusible Web (optional)—1/8 yard

Making the Prosperity Block

  1. Sew one 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" Fabric B piece between two 2 3/4" Fabric A squares as shown. Press. Make two.
  2. Sew one 1 1/2" Fabric C square between two 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" Fabric B pieces as shown. Press .
  3. Sew unit from step 2 between two units from step 1 as shown. Press.
  4. Sew two 1" x 6" Fabric I pieces to top and bottom of unit from step 3. Press seams toward Fabric I. Sew this unit between two 1" x 7" Fabric I pieces as shown. Press.
  5. Sew two Fabric E triangles to adjoining sides of one 2 3/4" Fabric G square as shown; corners will extend past edges of square. Press.

    Make four.
  6. Sew unit from step 4 between two units from step 5; corners will extend past edge of square. Press seams toward Fabric I. Sew this unit between two units from step 5. Press.
  7. Refer to Quick Corner Triangles. Making quick corner triangles sew four 2 3/4" Fabric C squares to unit from step 6 as shown. Press. Prosperity Block measures 9 1/2" square.

Adding the Appliqués

  1. Referring to Quick-Fuse Appliqué, trace four holly leaves on paper side of fusible web. If you prefer hand appliqué, refer to Hand Appliqué and add 1/4"-wide seam allowance to appliqué pattern.
  2. Press fusible web to wrong side of 3" x 8" Fabric F piece. Cut fused leaves and referring to block layout, arrange and fuse leaves to Block Two. Finish appliqué edges with machine satin stitch or other decorative stitching if desired.
