Finished size 49” x 49”

Create a block and make a wish each month of the year with our new 2008 Block of the Month Quilt Project. At the end of the year, you'll have a quilt to enjoy for many years to come.

Start in January with the welcoming "Hospitality" Block and finish in December with our beautiful Christmas Lily Medallion. Along the way you'll make a 9 1/2" (unfinished) sampler block each month (two in May) with wishes for Prosperity, Friendship, Freedom, Good Health, Faith, Hope, Happiness, Homecoming, Joy, Harmony and Peace. Instructions for a new block will be posted at the beginning of each month, but you can go back to previous blocks anytime by clicking on the months listed below the quilt. Getting Started

Shades of red, gold, and green with hints of brown and blue surround a striking center medallion for this unique Christmas quilt. Block construction consists of Quick Corner Triangles, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, and strip piecing. The Center Medallion measures 24 1/2" square (unfinished) including the blue border. Surrounding blocks measure 9 1/2" square unfinished.

When cutting pieces for blocks, cut the largest size needed first, then cut smaller pieces in descending order. As indicated in cutting charts some squares are to be cut diagonally once or twice to form triangles. When sewing triangles to squares, the triangle will extend past the edges of the square to allow for an adequate seam allowance.

When making half-square and quarter-square triangles or sewing triangles together, the units will need to be squared to retain a uniform shape. Instructions for these and other techniques may be obtained by clicking on blue highlighted words.

Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance before beginning construction. You may find that you need to make a slightly smaller or wider seam allowance to ensure accurate 9 1/2" square blocks.

Read all instructions before beginning and use 1/4"-wide seam allowances throughout. Press seams in direction of arrows.
