Getting Started
Seam allowances are 1/4". Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance. Whenever possible, use the Assembly Line Method. Press seams in direction of arrows.
Pieces Needed for Block Eight
Fabric A (medium green)– from 4 1/2"-wide strip, cut:
from 8 1/2"-wide strip, cut:
- one 8 1/2" x 9 1/2" piece
Fabric E (blue)– from 3 1/2"-wide strip, cut:
- two 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" pieces
from 6 1/2"-wide strip, cut:
- two 6 1/2" x 7 1/2" pieces
Fabric L (dark green)– from 6 1/2"-wide strip, cut:
Fabric O (black)– from 2 1/2"-wide strip, cut:

Making the Block
- Refer to Quick Corner Triangles. Sew one 6 1/2" Fabric L square to one 6 1/2" x 7 1/2" Fabric E piece as shown. Press. Make one of each.
- Making a quick corner triangle unit, sew one 4 1/2" Fabric A square to one unit from step 1. Press. Make one of each.
- Sew together units from step 2 as shown. Press.
- Sew 8 1/2" x 9 1/2" Fabric A piece between two 3 1/2" x 9 1/2" Fabric E pieces as shown. Press.
- Sew together units from step 3 and step 4 as shown. Press.
- Refer to Quick-Fuse Appliqué. Use birdhouse hole pattern to trace three birdhouse holes on fusible web. Use three 2 1/2" Fabric O pieces to prepare three birdhouse holes for fusing.
- Refer to block diagram above to position and fuse three birdhouse holes to block as shown. Finish appliqué edges with machine satin stitch or other decorative stitching as desired.
