The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here. Cut all strips on the crosswise grain of the fabric (from selvage to selvage).

Getting Started

Seam allowances are 1/4". Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance. Whenever possible, use the Assembly Line Method. Press seams in direction of arrows.

Pieces Needed for Block Two

Fabric E (Blue)

From 2 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 2 1/2" x 11 1/2" pieces

From 1 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces
  • One 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece

From 1"-wide strip cut:

  • Three 1” x 5 1/2” pieces

Fabric F (Cedar Green)

From 5 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • One 5 1/2" x 4" piece

From 4 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • One 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" piece

From 1 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces
  • Two 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" pieces
  • Two 1 1/2" squares

Fabric G (Green)

From 1 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 1 1/2" x 7 1/2" pieces
  • One 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" piece

Making the Block

  1. Sew one 2 1/2" x 11 1/2" Fabric E piece to one 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" Fabric F piece as shown. Press. Make two.

  2. Sew one 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" Fabric E piece to one 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" Fabric F piece as shown. Press. Make two.

  3. Sew one 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" Fabric E piece between two 1 1/2" Fabric F squares as shown. Press.

  4. Arrange and sew together one 1" x 5 1/2" Fabric E piece, unit from step 3, and one 5 1/2" x 4" Fabric F piece as shown. Press.

  5. Sew unit from step 4 between two 1" x 5 1/2" Fabric E pieces as shown. Press.

  6. Sew one 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" Fabric F piece to one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" Fabric G piece as shown. Press.

  7. Sew unit from step 6 between two 1 1/2" x 7 1/2" Fabric G pieces as shown. Press.

  8. Sew together units from step 5 and step 7 together as shown. Press.

  9. Arrange and sew together units from steps 1, 2, and 8 as shown. Press.

  10. Refer to block diagram above to add two small buttons for frog’s eyes.

  11. Refer to Embroidery Stitch Guide and block diagram and use two strands of black embroidery floss and a stem stitch to embroider frog’s nose and mouth. Block Two measures 12 1/2" square (unfinished).
