Getting Started
Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance and whenever possible use the Assembly Line Method of sewing. Press seams in direction of arrows.
Making the Ties
- Press 1/4” to wrong side on one short end of waist ties and neck ties. Fold ties in half lengthwise and press. Open and press raw edges to center pressed line and then fold again. Press. Top-stitch two long and one short side of ties.
Making the Accent Strip
- Fold and press one 4” Prairie Point fabric square in half diagonally, wrong sides together. Fold and press diagonally in half again, as shown, to make one Prairie Point. Raw edges will be together. Make two.
- Mark center of 2 1/2” x 20” Apron Accent strip. Referring to apron and with right sides together, center Prairie Points on either side of center mark overlapping center by 1/4”. Baste in place. Tack points of Prairie Points in place.
- Fold one 1” x 20” Mock-Piping Accent strip in half lengthwise and press. Make two.
- Sew Mock-Piping Accent strip to unit from step 2. Repeat for opposite side of Accent Strip. Press Mock-Piping seam under Accent Strip and Prairie Points toward Accent Strip.
Making the Apron
- Referring to diagram, mark center of top edge of apron. Mark 5” on either side of center point. Place a mark 11” down side of apron. Draw a line to form armhole angle from marked 5” to 11” side mark.
- On right side of apron, center and pin finished Accent Strip 1” down from raw edge of apron front. Top-stitch in place.
- Place neck ties 1/4” in from marked armhole line and pin in place. Place waist ties 1/4” from marked side armhole edge and pin in place.
- With right-sides-together, pin apron front and lining together making sure ties are free of seam allowances. Leaving a 5” opening for turning on one side edge, sew apron and lining together on all edges. Trim armhole 1/4” from seam line, clip corners, turn and press.
- Slip-stitch opening closed and top-stitch around apron edges.
Making the Pockets
- Referring to diagram, mark wrong side of one 7” x 10” lining fabric as shown. Make two. Layer lining and pocket right-sides-together and sew using 1/4”-wide seam leaving 4” opening for turning. Trim corners, clip corners, turn and press. Slip-stitch opening closed. Top-stitch pocket. Make two.
- Referring to diagram, measure and mark pocket placement 4” from side seams and 5” from bottom hem, or as desired. Stitch in place.
