Read all instructions before beginning and use 3/4”- wide seam allowances throughout. Sew all seams wrong sides together. A machine walking foot is recommended, or increase stitch length if walking foot isn't available.
Read Cutting Strips and Pieces prior to cutting fabric.
Fabric Requirements and Cutting Instructions
Fabric A - 2/3 yards each of two fleece patterns
Ten 11 1/2” squares for each of two fabrics
Backing- 1 1/3 yards
Getting Started
You will be making five rows of four blocks each, alternating Fabric A placements. Blocks and rows are joined wrong sides together. The seam allowances are then cut to make fringe.
Making the Throw
- With wrong sides together, stitch two different Fabric A pieces together using a 3/4”-wide seam. Make 10.
- With wrong sides together, sew two units from step 1 together to make one row, alternating Fabric A pieces. Make 5.
- With wrong sides together, sew rows together, turning units from step 2 as needed to have blocks alternate from row to row.
Layering and Finishing
- Layer Throw and Backing wrong sides together. Pin in place. At block intersections, tack through all layers to hold top and backing together. Stitch outside edges using 3/4”-wide seam.
- With sharp scissors, clip all seam allowances approximately every 1/2” stopping just short of sewn seam to make fringed blocks.
Fabulous Fleece Scarf
Create fast fleece scarves for all your friends with this simple technique.
Fleece is generally about 60"-wide which is a good length for a scarf.
Our fleece has stripes so it was easy to use stripes as our guide for cutting the scarf. If you select a fleece with an all-over pattern, cut your scarf 8"-9" wide.
Fleece does not ravel so no sewing is needed.
Cut 1/2"-wide fringe on both ends of the scarf.
If desired, tie a knot at each end for a stylish look.
1 Scarf : 1/4 yard
2 Scarves: 1/2 yard
3 Scarves: 3/4 yard
4 Scarves: 1 yard
