Summertime Apron
Making Paper Pattern
- Make a paper pattern by drawing a 26 ½” x 29” rectangle on a large piece of paper. Mark the center by folding the paper in half from side to side.
- Using the curved template given, place Armhole curve 5 3/4” from marked center and bottom of curve on outer seam line.
- Repeat for opposite side. Cut on drawn line.
Cutting

Referring to cutting diagram, cut the following pieces:
- From Apron Lining fabric cut one Apron Lining piece, one Pocket, two Waist Ties, two Neck Ties, and one Accent Strip following diagram.
- From Apron Pocket fabric cut one 9” x 26 ½” pocket piece.

Apron
- Place Apron Front and Apron Lining pieces right-sides-together and cut out apron using paper pattern.
- For top accent, cut 1 ¼” off top of apron front. Sew 1 ¾” x 12” Accent Strip to top of apron. Press. Top-stitch large rickrack over seam.
Pocket
- Place Apron Pocket and Apron Pocket Lining pieces right-sides-together and sew along long sides. Turn right-side-out and press. Top stitch large rickrack along upper edge of pocket.
- Place pocket on apron front, 4 ¼” from bottom edge. Top-stitch close to bottom edge and again ¼” away. Mark pocket divisions by measuring 4” from both sides of center and stitch in place.
Appliqué
- Adhere lightweight fusible web to wrong side of 3 ½” Appliqué fabric following manufacturer's instructions. Cut a 3” square. Using appliqué pressing sheet, lightly press medium size rickrack to back side of appliqué square, turning corners and continuing around square. Cut to desired length and treat raw ends with Fray Check.
- Press appliqué square 1 ½” down from accent strip and centered on apron front. Machine stitch around edge of square using satin stitch or other decorative stitching.
Ties
- For waist ties, fold one 5 ½” x 28 ½” Waist Tie piece right-sides-together lengthwise. Sew along one short and one long side. Clip corners and turn right-side-out. Press. Top stitch ¼” from edges, leaving opening free of stitching. Make 2.
- Repeat step 1 using one 4 ½” Neck Tie piece for neck ties. Make 2.
- Place Neck Ties 3/8” in from sides along upper edge and pin in place.
- Place Waist Ties 3/8” down from curve along sides and pin in place.
Assembly
- With right-sides-together, pin apron front and back together making sure ties are free of seam allowances. Leaving a 5” opening along bottom edge, sew using a ¼”-wide seam. Clip corners, turn and press.
- Hand stitch opening closed.
- Top stitch around apron.
