Table Runner

Accent your garden tea party table with this easy to construct runner. It will add just the right touch to your summer table.

Fabric Requirements and Cutting Instructions

Read all instructions before beginning and use 1/4”-wide seam allowances throughout.

Read Cutting Strips and Pieces prior to cutting fabric.

Getting Started

Block One

1. Refer to Quick Corner Triangles to sew four 2" Fabric B squares to one 3 ½" Fabric A square. Press. Make twelve.

2. Sew one 1 ½" x 3 ½" Fabric C piece between two units from step 1. Press. Make six.

3. Sew one 1 ½" Fabric D square between two 1 ½" x 3 ½" Fabric C pieces. Press. Make three.

4. Sew one unit from step 3 between two units from step 2. Press. Make three and label Block One. Block measures 7 ½" square.

 

Block Two

Use alternate Fabric A and B pieces for Block Two.

1. Refer to Quick Corner Triangles to sew four 2" Fabric B squares to one 3 ½" Fabric A square. Press. Make eight.

2. Sew one 1 ½" x 3 ½" Fabric C piece between two units from step 1. Press. Make four.

3. Sew one 1 ½" Fabric D square between two 1 ½" x 3 ½" Fabric C pieces. Press. Make two.


4. Sew one unit from step 3 between two units from step 2. Press. Make two and label Block Two. Block measures 7 ½" square.

Assembly

Sew three of Block Two, two of Block One and four 2 ½” x 7 ½” Fabric E pieces together as shown. Press.

Adding the Border

  1. Sew two 2 ½” x 7 ½” Fabric F pieces to ends of unit just assembled. Press.
  2. Sew remaining 2 ½” x 42” Fabric F pieces end-to-end to make one continuous 2 ½”-wide strip. Measure table runner through center from top to bottom, including borders just added. Cut two 2 ½”-wide border strips to this measurement. Sew to sides. Press.

Layering and Finishing

  1. Sew backing strips end-to-end to make one continuous 13 ½” x 84” backing piece. Press and trim backing to 13 ½” x 51” (approximate).
  2. Arrange and baste backing, batting, and top together, referring to Layering the Quilt. Quilt as desired.
  3. Sew 2 ¾” x 42”-wide binding strips end-to-end to make one continuous 2 ¾”-wide binding strip. Refer to Binding the Quilt and bind to finish.
