Patriotic Paper Pinwheels
Create colorful patriotic pinwheels for your summer décor. It's a breeze!
Making the Pinwheels:
1. Cut one 8-inch and one 6-inch square of gold paper; cut one 8-inch square of red paper.
2. Cut one 8-inch and one 6-inch piece of flag paper; cut one 8-inch and one 6-inch piece of cloud paper. Cut each into quarters.
3. Adhere patterned papers to solid paper in opposing corners.
4. Using scissors, start at one corner of each 8-inch square block and make a 3-1/2-inch slit towards the center. Repeat at the other corners. For the 6-inch square block, make a 2-inch slit at each corner.
5. Each paper block is now divided into 8 triangular sections. At the corner of every other triangle, punch a 1/8-inch hole.
6. Fold the corners with holes punched through them and bring toward the center.
7. Slide a brad through all the holes, and then push it through the center of the block. Bend the prongs back to secure in place. If desired, decorate brads by hot-gluing buttons or beads to the head.
8. Glue or tape a wooden dowel to the back of each pinwheel.
9. Fill various clear glass jars with red, clear, and blue glass marbles. Insert pinwheels on dowels into marbles.
