School Paper Organizer
- A 6” wooden ruler (available at craft or office supply stores) serves as a nostalgic embellishment as well as a base for the organizer title.
- Letter and number rub-ons added to metal-rimmed cork tags mimic a classroom bulletin board.
- Decorative metal photo corners glued to the front flap coordinate with the handle and closure.
- A library pocket holds a tag showcasing a favorite kindergarten photo. Library pockets can be made from your own paper supplies using a template found online (search for “library card book pocket template”).
Friends Photo Organizer
- A binder clips holds a tassel in place as a front cover embellishment.
- Alphabet-stamped ribbon ties the album together. We tea-dyed ours to soften the look.
- Depending on the size of the coin slots, a punch can be used to easily trim the photos for insertion in the album.
- Use acrylic paint to customize the albums interior pages. We dry-brushed brown over an ivory base to create an antique look.
- A variety of school-related trinkets dress up the albums pages. We used buttons (snip off the shank before adhering to the album), metal tags and letters, stickers, and a postcard.
- Think ‘outside' of the normal scrapbooking product range in order to decorate your projects. We trimmed down a School Days file folder for our cover image.
Tips to manage and preserve your child's school memories for future generations:
Once a month, go through your child's papers to decide what's important to save and what can be tossed.
Suggestions for papers to save – self-portraits, first efforts, essays or short stories that give insight into your child's personality, tests or reports with exceptional scores, and your child's best or favorite pieces of artwork.
Suggestions for saving artwork – Snap a photo of your child with his or her favorite artwork once a month. At the end of the year, create an “Artwork through the Year” collage of the photos. Scan favorite artworks, resize the images, and print a collage. Or archive scanned images to a CD.
