Fabric Requirements and Cutting Instructions

Read all instructions before beginning and use 1/4”-wide seam allowances throughout. Read Cutting Strips and Pieces prior to cutting fabric.

Getting Started

This quilt uses fabric squares and a pieced lattice treatment to focus on motif and large icon fabrics. Alternating fabrics gives the quilt visual interest, yet keeps it simple to make.

Making the Lattice

Sew one 1 1/2” x 42” Fabric D strip between two 1” x 42” Fabric E strips as shown.  Press toward Fabric E.  Make 10. Cut sixty 6”-wide segments as shown.

Assembling the Quilt

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew together six units from step 1 above, two Fabric B squares, two Fabric A squares, and one Fabric C square together as shown. Press. Make two and label Rows 2 and 10.

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew together six units from step 1 above, three Fabric A squares, one Fabric C square, and one Fabric B square together as shown. Press. Make two and label Rows 4 and 8.

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew together six units from step 1 above, two Fabric C squares, two Fabric A squares, and one Fabric B square together as shown. Press. Make one and label Row 6.

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew together six 2 1/2” Fabric F squares and six segments from step 1 above together as shown. Press. Make six and label Rows 1,3,5,7, 9 and 11.

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew rows together as shown turning rows as needed for correct color placement. Press.

Adding the Borders

  1. Referring to photo and layout, sew two 1 1/2” x 40” strips to top and bottom of quilt. Press.
  2. Referring to photo and layout, sew two 1 1/2” x 42” strips to sides of quilt. Press.

Layering and Finishing

  1. Referring to Layering the Quilt, arrange and baste backing, batting, and top together. Hand or machine quilt as desired.
  2. Fold 2 3/4”-wide binding strips in half lengthwise and press. Refer to Binding the Quilt and bind quilt to finish.
