Picnic Throw
Invite everyone, except the ants, to enjoy an outdoor picnic to celebrate summer.
You will want to bring out this summer quilt to make memories for years to come.
Fabric Requirements and Cutting Instructions

Read all instructions before beginning and use 1/4”-wide seam allowances throughout.
Read Cutting Strips and Pieces prior to cutting fabric.
Getting Started
This throw is simple to construct, yet is just the perfect accent for your summer picnics. Blocks measure 23” unfinished. Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance and whenever possible use the Assembly Line Method of sewing. Press seams in the direction of arrows.
Making the Blocks
1. Sew one 7” Fabric A square between two 1 ½” x 7 ½” Fabric B pieces. Make four. Press.

2. Sew two 1 ½” x 9 ½” Fabric B pieces to sides of unit from step 1. Make four. Press.

3. Sew two 3 ½” x 9 ½” Fabric C pieces to top and bottom of unit from step 2. Make four. Press.

4. Sew two 3 ½” x 15 ½” Fabric C pieces to sides of unit from step 3. Make four. Press.

5. Sew two like 4 ½” x 15 ½” Fabric D Repeating Stripe pieces to top and bottom of unit from step 4. Make two. Press.

6. Sew one 4 ½” x 15 ½” Fabric D Repeating Stripe piece between two 4” Fabric E or B corner squares. Make four. Press.

7. Sew two units from step 6 to sides of unit from step 5. Press. Make two. Press and label Block 1.

8. Repeat steps 5-7, using second Fabric D repeating stripe and second Fabric B or E corner square, to complete remaining two blocks. Press and label Block 2. Blocks measure 23 ½” unfinished.
9. Sew one 1 ½” x 23 ½” Fabric E piece between one Block 1 and one Block 2. Make two. Press.

10. Sew two units from step 9, between three 1 ½” x 47 ½” Fabric E pieces. Press.

11. Sew two 1 ½” x 49 ½” Fabric E pieces to sides of unit from step 10. Press.
Adding the Borders
Sew 2 ½” Fabric C strips end-to-end to make one continuous 2 ½” Fabric C strip. Referring to Adding the Borders, measure quilt through center from side to side. Cut two 2 ½” Fabric C strips to this measurement. Sew to top and bottom of quilt. Press seams towards border.
Measure quilt through center from top to bottom, including border just added. Cut two 2 ½” Fabric C strips to this measurement. Sew to sides of quilt. Press.

Layering and Finishing
Referring to Layering the Quilt, arrange and baste 60” square backing piece, batting and top together. Hand or machine quilt as desired.
Sew 2 ¾”-wide binding strips together end-to-end to make on continuous 2 ¾”-wide binding strip. Refer to Binding the Quilt and bind to finish.
