Here's My Heart!
Sweet and Simple Valentine Throw

Finished Size: 36" x 56"

This valentine will keep on giving—warmth, comfort, and coziness—long after February 14th! A mix of fleece and cotton makes an unusual and heart-warming throw for all your special valentines. Fabrics are available at Jo-Ann's Fabric and Craft Stores.

Supplies Needed

1 yard Fleece
1 yard Cotton Fabric

Making the Throw

  1. Stripe runs selvage to selvage on cotton fabric shown, but a stripe that runs parallel to selvage will also work for this project. "Fussy Cut" striped fabric into five 7"-wide strips.
  2. One yard of fleece should measure approximately 36" x 56" so no additional cutting is required.
  3. Press 1/2" under on each side of two cotton strips then fold in half. Arrange one strip on short end of fleece and pin in place. Fleece edge should be at the center fold line and edges of cotton should extend 3" onto each side of fleece piece. Using straight stitch or decorative stitch of your choice, sew pieces into place. Trim cotton strip even with fleece edges.
  4. Measure length of fleece piece, including cotton border just added. Sew remaining 7"-wide strips together end-to-end (matching pattern) and cut two strips to fleece length measurement plus 1".
  5. Following procedure in step 3, sew cotton to long sides of fleece piece; turning ends under 1/2" and hand-sewing in place.
  6. For extra stability, use a straight stitch and sew about 1" from edge (follow line in pattern if possible) on all sides of throw.
