Life and Liberty Pillow

This patriotic pillow features bright stars and bold stripes. Simple strip construction and fusible appliqués will make these Stars and Stripes fly off your sewing machine - ready to make the perfect patriotic accent to your décor! Fabric Requirements and Cutting Instructions

• Rail Fence fabric - 1/6 yard each of red, white and blue fabric.
• Star Background - 1/6 yard
• Inside Border - 1/4 yard
• Outside Border - 1/8 yard
• Appliqué Stars - assorted scraps

Making the Pillow Top

1. Sew 1 1/2" x 42" white fabric strip between one 1 1/2" x 42" red fabric strip and 1 1/2" x 42" blue fabric strip. Press. Make 2.
2. Cut strips into twelve 3 1/2"segments as shown.
   
   
3. Cut four 3 1/2" Star Background squares. Referring to pillow photo, arrange and sew units together as shown. Press. Pillow measures 12 1/2" square.
4. Refer to Quick-Fuse Appliqué directions and Star Pattern below for appliqué. Use assorted scraps to trace, cut, and fuse four stars to blocks. Finish edges as desired.
5. Sew a 3 1/2" x 12 1/2" Inside Border strip to top and bottom of pillow block. Press toward border. Sew a 3 1/2" x 18 1/2" Inside Border strip to each side of pillow. Press.
6. Sew a 1 1/2" x 18 1/2" Outside Border strip to top and bottom of pillow block. Press toward border. Sew a 1 1/2" x 20 1/2" Outside Border strip to each side of pillow. Press.
7. Quilt and finish pillow back as desired.
