Block Seven

"Blowing Leaf"

The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here.

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A—from 10”-wide strip cut two 8 1/2” x 1 1/2” pieces and two 6 1/2” x 1 1/2” pieces.
Fabric C—from 2”-wide strip, cut four 2” squares
Fabric D—from 5 1/2”-wide strip cut two 5” x 2”pieces and two 3 1/2” x 2” pieces. From 2”-wide strip cut two 2” squares.
Fabric E—from 2 1/2”-wide strip cut two 2 1/2” x 1” pieces and four 2” squares. From 1 1/2”-wide strip, cut two 1” x 3 1/2” pieces.
Fabric G—from 1”-wide strip, cut two 1” x 9 1/2” strips and two 1” x 8 1/2” strips.
Fabric J—“fussy cut” one 2 1/2” square focusing on a leaf design.

Making the Block

1. Sew 2 1/2” Fabric J square between two 1” x 2 1/2” Fabric E pieces as shown. Press. Sew this unit between two 1” x 3 1/2” Fabric E pieces as shown. Press.
   
   
   
2.  Refer to Quick Corner Triangles. Making quick corner triangles sew one 2” Fabric E square to one 3 1/2” x 2” Fabric D piece as shown. Press. Make two.
   
   
3. Sew unit from step 1 between two units from step 2 as shown. Press.
   
   
4. Making a quick corner triangle sew one 2” Fabric E square to one 2” x 5” Fabric D piece as shown. Press. Make two.
   
   
5. Sew one 2” Fabric D square to one unit from step 4 as shown. Press. Make two.
   
   
6. Sew unit from step 3 between two units from step 5 as shown. Press.
   
   
7. Making quick corner triangles sew four 2” Fabric C squares to unit from step 6 as shown. Press.
   
   
8. Sew unit from step 7 between two 1 1/2” x 6 1/2” Fabric A pieces as shown. Press seams toward Fabric A. Sew this unit between two 1 1/2” x 8 1/2” Fabric A pieces as shown. Press.
   
   
9. Sew unit from step 8 between two 1” x 8 1/2” Fabric G pieces as shown. Press seams toward Fabric G. Sew this unit between two 1” x 9 1/2” Fabric G pieces as shown. Press. Block Seven measures 9 1/2” square.
