Block Five

"Autumn Star"

The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here.

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric A—from 5”-wide strip, cut four 5” x 2 3/4” pieces. From 10”-wide strip cut two 10” x 1 5/8” strips, from these two strips cut eight 1 5/8” squares.

Fabric C—from 2”-wide strip, cut five 2” square pieces.

Fabric D—from 2 3/4”-wide strip, cut eight 2 3/4” squares.

Fabric F—from 3 1/2”-wide strip, cut four 2” squares.

Fabric G—from 2”-wide strip, cut eight 1 5/8” squares.

Making the Block

  1. Sew together one 1 5/8” Fabric A square and one 1 5/8” Fabric G square. Press. Make eight. Sew these units together in pairs as shown. Press. Make four.


  2. Refer to Quick Corner Triangles. Making quick corner triangles sew two 2 3/4” Fabric D squares to one 5” x 2 3/4” Fabric A piece as shown. Press. Make four.


  3. Sew one unit from step 2 between two units from step 1 noting position of dark squares. Press. Make two.


  4. Sew one 2” Fabric F square between two 2” Fabric C squares as shown. Press. Make two.


  5. Sew one 2” Fabric C square between two 2” Fabric F squares as shown. Press. Sew this unit between two units from step 4 as shown. Press.


  6. Sew unit from step 5 between two units from step 2 as shown. Press.


  7. Sew unit from step 6 between two units from step 3 as shown. Press. Block Five measures 9 1/2” square.
