Cutting Chart

The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here.

Fabric A—from 5”-wide strip cut one 5” square and four 5” x 2 3/4” pieces. From 2 3/4”-wide strip cut four 2 3/4” squares.

Fabric B—from 2”-wide strip cut approximate 2” x 3 1/2” piece for mushroom stem appliqué.

Fabric C—from 2 3/4”-wide strip, cut two 2 3/4” squares. From 2”-wide strip cut one approximate 2” x 3” piece for mushroom cap appliqué.

Fabric D—from 2 3/4”-wide strip cut two 2 3/4” squares.

Fabric E—from 3 1/2”-wide strip, cut two 2 3/4” squares.

Fabric F—from 3 1/2”-wide strip, cut two 2 3/4” squares.

Fabric I—cut four 2” squares.

Lightweight Fusible Web—scrap

Making the Block

  1. Making Quick Corner Triangles sew one 2 3/4” Fabric E square and one 2 3/4” Fabric C square to one 5” x 2 3/4” Fabric A piece as shown. Press. Make two.
  2. Making Quick Corner Triangles sew four 2” Fabric I squares to one 5” Fabric A square as shown. Press.
  3. Sew unit from step 2 between two units from step 1 as shown. Press.
  4. Making Quick Corner Triangles sew one 2 3/4” Fabric D square and one 2 3/4” Fabric F square to one 5” x 2 3/4” Fabric A piece as shown. Press. Make two.
  5. Sew one unit from step 4 between two 2 3/4” Fabric A squares as shown. Press. Make two.
  6. Sew unit from step 3 between two units from step 5 as shown. Press. Block One measures 9 1/2” square.

Adding the Appliqués

  1. Referring to Quick-Fuse Appliqué, trace Mushroom Cap and Stem patterns on paper side of fusible web. If you prefer hand appliqué, refer to Hand Appliqué and add 1/4”-wide seam allowance to patterns.
  2. Press fusible web to wrong side of Fabric B for stem and Fabric C for cap. Cut out appliqué pieces and referring to block layout, arrange and fuse mushroom to Block One. Finish appliqué edges with machine satin stitch or other decorative stitching as desired.
