"Freedom"

Fabric Requirements:

Fabric D —From 5 1/2"-wide strip, cut two 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" pieces, two 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" pieces

Fabric E —From 1 1/2"-wide strip, cut two 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" pieces, two 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" pieces

Fabric F —From 1 1/2"-wide strip, cut one 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece, one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" piece

Fabric G —From 4 3/4"-wide strip, cut two 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" pieces, two 3 3/4" squares
From 1 1/2" strip, cut two 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" pieces, two 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" pieces, two 1 1/2" squares

Fabric J —One 4 1/2" square

Making the Freedom Block

  1. Refer to Quick Corner Triangles. Making quick corner triangles sew two 3 3/4" Fabric G squares to opposite corners of 4 1/2" Fabric J square as shown. Press.


  2. Sew together unit from step 1 and one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" Fabric E piece as shown. Press. Sew one 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" Fabric E piece to top of unit as shown. Press.


  3. Referring to diagram sew together one 1 1/2" Fabric G square and one 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" Fabric D piece as shown. Press and label Unit 1.
    • Sew together one 1 1/2" Fabric G square and one 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" Fabric D piece as shown. Press and label Unit 2.
    • Sew together one 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" Fabric F piece as shown. Press and label Unit 3.
    • Sew together one 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" Fabric F piece as shown. Press and label Unit 4.
    • Sew together one 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" Fabric E piece as shown. Press and label Unit 5.
    • Sew together one 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" Fabric E piece as shown. Press and label Unit 6.
    • Sew together one 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" Fabric D piece as shown. Press and label Unit 7.
    • Sew together one 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" Fabric G piece and one 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" Fabric D piece as shown. Press and label Unit 8.



  4. Sew together unit from step 2 and Unit 1 as shown. Press. Sew Unit 2 to top of this unit as shown. Press.


  5. Sew together unit from step 4 and Unit 3 as shown. Press. Sew Unit 4 to top of this unit as shown. Press.


  6. Sew together unit from step 5 and Unit 5 as shown. Press. Sew Unit 6 to top of this unit as shown. Press.


  7. Sew together unit from step 6 and Unit 7 as shown. Press. Sew Unit 8 to top of this unit as shown. Press. Freedom Block measures 9 1/2" square.
