The fabric requirements for the entire quilt are available here. Cut all strips on the crosswise grain of the fabric (from selvage to selvage).

Getting Started

Seam allowances are 1/4". Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance. Whenever possible, use the Assembly Line Method. Press seams in direction of arrows.

Pieces Needed for Block Five

Fabric A (Medium Green)

From 6 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 6 1/2" x 10" pieces

Fabric G (Green)

From 1 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 1 1/2" x 9" pieces

Fabric J (Gold)

From 6 1/2"-wide strip cut:

  • Two 6 1/2" x 12 1/2" pieces

Lightweight Fusible Web – 1/4 yard

 

Making the Block

  1. Refer to Quick-Fuse Appliqué. Use Leaf and Stem Patterns to trace two leaves and two stems on fusible web. Use two 6 1/2" x 10" Fabric A pieces to prepare leaves and two 1 1/2" x 9" Fabric G pieces to prepare leaf stems for fusing.

  2. Refer to block diagram above to position and fuse one leaf and one leaf stem to one 6 1/2" x 12 1/2" Fabric J piece as shown. Finish appliqué edges with machine satin stitch or other decorative stitching as desired. Make two. Each Block Five measures 12 1/2" x 6 1/2" (unfinished).
