Getting Started

Yardage requirements, cutting instructions, general notes and layout are found here. Seam allowances are 1/4". Refer to Accurate Seam Allowance. Whenever possible, use the Assembly Line Method. Press seams in direction of arrows.

Pieces Needed for Block Five

Fabric B—from 3 1/2"-wide strip, cut one 3 1/2" square

Fabric D—from 2"-wide strip, cut eight 2" x 5" pieces

Fabric E—from 6 1/2"-wide strip, cut eight 2" squares

Fabric I—from 2 3/4"-wide strip, cut

Eight 2 3/4" squares

Eight 2" squares

Fabric J—from 2 3/4"-wide strip, cut eight 2 3/4" squares

Making the Block

  1. Sew one 2 3/4" Fabric J square to one 2 3/4" Fabric I square as shown. Press. Make eight. Sew these units in pairs together as shown. Press. Make four.

  2. Referring to Quick Corner Triangles, sew one 2" Fabric I square and one 2" Fabric E square to one 2" x 5" Fabric D piece as shown. Press. Make eight, four of each variation.

  3. Sew units from step 2 together in pairs as shown. Press.
  4. Sew one unit from step 3 between two units from step 1 as shown, noting position of colors. Press. Make two.

  5. Sew 3 1/2" Fabric B square between two units from step 3 as shown. Press.

  6. Sew unit from step 5 between two units from step 4 as shown. Press. Block Five measures 12 1/2" square.
