Lake Time Lodge Decorating

Whether you are decorating a lakeside cottage, a cabin in the woods, or just want the look of a lakeside lodge for your suburban home, these quick crafting ideas will get you started on a nature-loving look for your home.

Start the look at your door with a rustic door decoration made from distressed wood, wire, twigs, and chipboard letters. The bear motif was cut from one of Debbie's Lake Time fabrics and is fused directly to the board. Twigs frame the fabric and are hot-glued into place. Brown acrylic paint was dry-brushed onto chipboard letters for an aged look.

Continue the lake time theme with a cozy lap quilt that's perfect for snuggling under on the sofa or use it as a blanket for an outdoor picnic. Our quick-sew pattern makes this a fast and fun project.

Need more than one cozy quilt for chilly evenings? Use Debbie's Lake Time fleece to make cozy blankets for every member of the family. They will add warmth, color, and texture to your family room.

Water-smoothed river rocks make great home décor accessories. Create an organic and unusual display for a coffee table or buffet by grouping a variety of rocks and votive candles on a tray. Just for fun, use press-on or rub-on scrapbook letters to add words to a few of the rocks.

Create wall art by showcasing a few perfect stones, twigs, and moss in a shadowbox. Look for a shadowbox frame that enables you to put a mat next to the glass before inserting your natural items. Simply use hot glue to attach a piece of grass cloth to the shadowbox's wooden backing, then glue rocks and twigs to the grass cloth. Insert your composition into the shadowbox and attach according to shadowbox directions.

Place a vintage creel and fishing gear on the mantel to show off collectibles and reinforce the lake lodge theme. A stack of vintage boating, fishing, and wildflower identification books on an ottoman will be handy references as well as decorative accessories. Paint wall colors to reflect the outdoor scenery and feature wood, leather, and other natural materials in chairs and tables. Relax and enjoy your beautiful space and time on the lake!
