Western Decorating
There's a little cowboy in all of us! If you have more than a little, consider decorating a room with a fun Western theme. Whether it's the family room or a room for a little buckaroo, these tips will help you add Western personality to any room.
Natural materials like wood, rock, and metal are key elements in Western decorating. Furniture is usually oversized with simple styling, in warm wood tones or a painted finish. Colors like sand, rich brown, bandana red, and navy blue are typical in Western-styled rooms.

Motifs like horses, cowboys, badges, horseshoes, and covered wagons set the scene for a Western theme and are easy to incorporate using a quilt like this one. Featuring our new Round-Up fabric, this easy quilt can be made as a lap quilt or twin bed quilt. Draped on a sofa or bed, this quilt will add instant cowboy colors and motifs to your rustic room. Add other fun fabrics like leather, suede, denim, and woven blankets for texture and touch.

Stars are favorite Western icons and an oversized star looks great on the wall. We altered our metal star using scrapbook paper from my Buckaroo Collection for Creative Imaginations. The paper and stickers match perfectly with the Round-Up Fabric Collection.

Rusted metal is a great way to add vintage charm in Western decorating. Items like this clock and dimensional star add time-worn and weathered elements to a room. Horseshoes as cabinet knobs or wall sconces are a great way to add both a metal element and a cowboy icon to your western room.

Twigs, pinecones, birch logs and other natural elements are perfect for wall décor and accessories. Here, twigs are used to spell the word LODGE on a rustic wall piece. Twigs can also be used to make a lamp, as a basket, or to fill an old crock. Glue birch branches around a mirror or to a chest of drawers to "westernize" plain furniture.

Decorative details should be textural and simple. Painted furniture and accessories like this lamp should be glazed for an aged look. Suede rickrack trims the shade and cowboy icons add a fun touch to the
lamp shade. Cactus is a western staple, especially when it is displayed in a
tin bucket embellished with rope. Rocks surround the cactus, adding another textural, natural element to the décor.
