It's Apple Pickin' Time! Decorate with Apples
Apples are for more than eating! At this time of the year when apples are plentiful and beautiful, I love to use them to decorate my home and studio. Vibrant colors, interesting shapes, and organic quality make apples a "natural" for harvest time decorating.
I created this showy centerpiece for an event at my studio. It is fun and easy to make, and uses materials you may already have around the house. Watch this video to find out how to make this centerpiece.
To anchor the arrangement, we made a fast and easy tablerunner that uses a repeating stripe fabric for lots of design punch. Napkins feature an apple print on one side and a basket weave print on the other side, giving us lots of decorating flexibility.
We folded the napkins unevenly, so the backing fabric adds a punch of color. Little wreaths of faux berries and leaves make charming napkin rings.
Apples also marked the spot at the table for each guest. We used our Bernina® Artista 730 to embroider names on a leafy fabric then used our good old pinking shears to cut out leaves for place cards.

After the event, we created this homey and happy centerpiece for the table in the studio kitchen. We filled an old canning jar with dried apple slices, put a few left-over flowers in a smaller jar and added a few apples for the finishing touch….of course we have to keep replacing the apples.
Some people think that apples are for eating!
