Celebrate all Summer with Red, White, and Blue!

To me the colors of summer are red, white, and blue! Just before Independence Day, I decorate an entry table and outdoor living spaces with patriotic colors that I'll enjoy all through the summer.

For patriotic decorating you don't need to buy much -- just scour your own cupboards and linen drawers for anything red, white, and blue, or star shaped, then use your creativity to pull together some pleasing patriotic vignettes. Decorating essentials like fresh flowers and classic candlesticks can help dress your displays.

This eye-catching centerpiece relies on two red holiday votive holders, a red drinking glass, and clear glass vase and sherbet cup. Glass gems from the craft store in our patriotic colors and a navy blue napkin help tie it all together.

A dining table is easily dressed for the summer with a checked napkin used as a table runner, red napkins, and a vintage vase filled with a few flowers and a fabric "flag."

A holiday star wreath is recycled for summer action on the front door with the addition of a blue ribbon bow and tiny flags.

A cobalt blue vase, red candle lantern and white star bowl report for summer duty on a sideboard. Glass gems and a nautical sun catcher bring patriotic pizzazz to the star bowl.

 

Silver candlesticks become patriotic torches with the addition of sparkling glass and jewelry. A red drinking glass and a votive holder sit on top of candlesticks (a little tacky clay holds them in place) and a red bracelet and crystal necklace add bead detail. A blue glass bottle is mounted on the third candlestick with a bead tassel as a badge of honor.
