A Tea Party to Remember

May is the month for Mother’s Day, graduations, and wedding showers—the perfect time to host your favorite ladies for a tea party! And what setting could be lovelier or more special than a dining room or patio decorated lavishly with garden-themed fabric and fresh flowers.

Each guest will feel welcome and pampered in this beautiful setting especially when she sees her name inscribed on a charming card, marking her place at one of the tables!

Beautiful and tasty tea party treats are deceptively easy to make and are sure to be a hit with your guests. Be sure to print out extra copies of these recipes as all the guests will want to take copies home. Display tea party fare on a tiered platter or footed trays. If you don't have a footed tray, turn a sturdy glass goblet or bowl upside down and use a dab of hot glue to hold a glass plate in place. Your improvised plate will easily dismantle after the party just by peeling the hot glue off. Allow guests to help themselves from your beautifully displayed tea party buffet.

A simple round card table is dressed for this occasion in a sunflower-strewn circle skirt that reaches the floor. Two layers on top give the effect of a giant sunflower. Instructions for this table cover are available in Debbie Mumm's® Best Loved Quilting Themes.

Keepsake place cards feature dimensional bees complete with wire antenna. Bee body and wings are cut from cardstock and embellished with dimensional paint giving a raised effect. Wire antennae are constructed by wrapping black wire around a round, wooden toothpick. Mounting tape raises the bee above a rectangle of subtly-flowered scrapbook paper which is mounted on a frame of ivory with small brads. The whole bee unit is adhered to green card stock and scrapbook sticker alphabet letters spell out each name. A packet of flower seeds is adhered inside the place card providing a party favor that will be remembered all summer long.

For a whimsical and unusual centerpiece, freshly cut flowers are displayed in five glass bottles gathered in an old metal carrier. Searching your kitchen cupboards may produce many different 'vase' options that you haven't previously considered. A pitcher, creamer and sugar, teapot, colored glasses, or antique canning jars are all fun options.

No tea party would be complete without tea party attire! Decorate your own garden party hat with handmade silk flower blooms, our craft project of the month.

Make the month of May even more memorable by hosting a tea party!
