Sweet and Spooky Centerpiece

A sweet candy corn base is topped with spooky jack-o-lanterns and moons to make a festive centerpiece for your Halloween treat table. Easy painting techniques make this project fast and fun.

Supply List:

Making the Centerpiece:

  1. Apply Gesso to flowerpot and saucer and allow to dry. Note: saucer will be used upside down, so coat all surfaces of saucer with Gesso.
  2. Decide on placement of each color to mimic candy corn. Our flowerpot has horizontal lines making it easy to determine color placement. For a plain flowerpot measure and mark dividing lines for each color. Center orange section should be wider than white and yellow sections.
  3. Apply Wicker White paint to bottom section and Crocus Yellow paint to top section. Two or more coats of paint may be needed for good coverage. Allow paint to dry thoroughly after each application.
  4. Use Scotch® Magic™ Tape to mask off white and yellow sections, pressing firmly on edges of tape to get crisp lines.
  5. Paint saucer and center section of flowerpot with Jack-o'-Lantern Orange paint. Two or more coats of paint may be needed for good coverage. Allow to dry thoroughly after each application.
  6. Apply gloss varnish to flowerpot and saucer.
  7. Paint both sides of jack o' lantern cutouts with orange paint and allow to dry. Paint both sides of moons with yellow paint and allow to dry. Paint jack o' lantern features with black paint and stems with brown paint.
  8. Apply gloss varnish to cutouts if desired.
  9. Use hot glue to affix a dowel to each cutout.
  10. Fill flowerpot with floral foam. Position moons and jack o’ lanterns by poking dowels into foam, trimming dowels as necessary. Add crinkle paper to cover foam.
