Garden Lights

Light up the garden with these whimsical lights made from glass blocks and powered by Christmas lights. The hardest part of this project is drilling a hole in the glass block! The mosaic can be as simple or intricate as you like.
Supply List:
-
Glass Blocks -
Construction Glass Blocks: you will need to drill a hole in the back of each glass block that is large enough to feed Christmas lights through. This requires a drill press and diamond hole saw drill bit.
Craft Glass Blocks with an already cut hole are also available. Check with your local craft stores.
-
Mosaic Pieces - Glass gems, sea glass, pre-cut and tumbled glass mosaic pieces are good choices. You can also use stained and transparent glass that you cut yourself, but edges will be sharp and not suitable for areas where children play.
-
Weldbond® Adhesive
-
Small String of Clear Mini Lights for each Block.
Making the Garden Lights:
- Decide on mosaic pattern and assemble supplies. We used combinations of glass gems and glass pieces for a grape cluster, flower and butterfly, and a more geometric form.
- Glue glass gems and pieces to side of glass block using Weldbond® adhesive. Allow to dry thoroughly.
- If desired, add glass pieces and gems to edges of block using adhesive. Allow to dry.
- Thread Christmas lights through opening in glass block. Plug in lights and enjoy your garden light.
