Materials Needed

Making the Chalkboard

  1. Cut board into two pieces (12” x 14” and 12” x 10”). Round corners of each board. Drill holes for ribbon approximately 1” from edge. Sand boards to prepare for painting.
  2. Paint one side of 12” x 14” board with chalkboard paint. Let dry.
  3. Paint sides and edge of 12” x 10” board with green paint. Let dry.
  4. Paint sides of 12” x 14” chalkboard with green paint. Hold paint brush dipped in green paint at a right angle to your board and drag the brush around the edges, to create the look of uneven coverage. Let dry.
  5. Paint body of dragonfly medium blue. Paint edges of wings green and top of wings light blue. Let dry.
  6. Paint one flower light yellow and one flower medium yellow. Let dry. Paint edges of light yellow flower with light blue paint. Paint edges of medium yellow flower with green paint. Let dry.
  7. Using glue, draw accent designs on wings of dragonfly and on flower petals. Sprinkle with glitter. Let dry.
  8. Using glue adhere beads and decorative gems to dragonfly and flowers. Let dry.
  9. Glue ribbon flower stems to chalkboard. (HINT: use small pieces of removable Artist's Tape to keep ribbon in place while glue dries.)
  10. Adhere flowers to chalkboard using foam mounting tape. Set chalkboard aside.
  11. Trim checked scrapbook paper to 9-1/2” x 11-1/4”. Round corners to match 12” x 10” board. (HINT: Trim paper to size first; then trace corner radius on reverse side of paper. Trim for a perfect match.) Mark ribbon holes on paper and use single-hole punch to cut. Adhere paper to board.
  12. Trim striped paper to 4-3/4” x 11-1/4”. Adhere to checked paper.
  13. Trim yellow scrapbook paper to 4-1/4” square. Adhere to stripe paper as shown.
  14. Trim sampler paper to 4” square. Using a nearly-dry paint brush dipped in green paint, drag brush lightly along edges. Let dry.
  15. Adhere sampler block to yellow block using foam mounting tape. Adhere dragonfly to sampler paper with foam mounting tape.
  16. Adhere letters to board using foam mounting tape.
  17. Cut two pieces of yellow ribbon, each 5-1/2” long. Thread ribbon through hole in bottom of “To Do” board and top of chalkboard. Adjust to desired length and safety pin ribbon ends on back side of boards. Repeat for the other side.
  18. Cut one 16” piece of both yellow and blue ribbons. Thread ribbons through to front side of “To Do” board and knot each end. Trim ribbon ends.
  19. Hang and enjoy!
