Valentine Ice Bucket

Create romantic ambiance and a charming table accessory by repurposing an old tin vase into a Valentine's Day ice bucket that's perfect for chilling sparkling cider or champagne. Scrapbook paper covers the sides of the vase creating a fresh new look.
Materials Needed
- Tin Vase - Large enough to hold cider or champagne bottle; a variety of shapes will work, but look for a vase that does not have an embossed design.
- Scrapbook Paper – three to four matching sheets depending on size of vase.
- Mod Podge® Satin
- Tracing Paper, pencil, scissors, 1" paint brush
Making the Ice Bucket
- To make a pattern of the vase, lay tracing paper on one side of the vase as shown. Using the side of the lead in a pencil, rub lead over the edge of the vase to get an impression. Without moving tracing paper, continue around vase edges on one side to create a pattern. Remove pattern from vase and sketch in a cutting line, adding about 1/4" to each side of the pattern (but not the top and bottom).
- Place pattern on scrapbook paper. Because tracing paper is see-through, this is your opportunity to decide what elements on the scrapbook paper to feature such as the heart tree that we chose to center in our pattern. Following pattern, cut out scrapbook paper for one side of vase. Fit paper to the side of the vase, make any changes necessary. Cut small slits in the 1/4" added to both sides. This portion will wrap around the corners so that all areas are covered. Repeat process to cut paper for the opposite side of vase.
- Apply Mod Podge to one side of vase and carefully smooth cut paper onto side, covering with more Mod Podge and wrapping 1/4" around corners. Continue smoothing with Mod Podge until paper is fully adhered. Repeat for opposite side. Allow to dry completely.
- For the other two sides, eliminate the 1/4" additions as the corners will already be covered. Repeat steps two and three and adhere paper to remaining sides. Allow to dry. Touch up with paint as needed.
- We recommend lining ice bucket with a plastic bag before adding ice as many tin vases are not water tight.
