Americana Stars
Rustic wooden stars make a patriotic statement in the garden when mounted on a fence or attached to stakes in a flower bed. The stars are easy to make and will add a touch of Americana to any setting. For more garden projects, check out Debbie’s Greenwood Gardens book.

Making the Stars
- Arrange boards together as shown into a star shape. Screw together at points. If screws are too long, cut off the ends and sand smooth.
- Paint large star with Tompte Red paint. Paint small star with Golden Straw. Two coats may be needed for good coverage. Allow to dry overnight.
- Distress wooden stars by sanding the edges creating faux “wear spots.” Remove sanding residue.
- Apply antiquing medium to star, wiping off or adding antiquing medium until the desired look is achieved. When dry, spray with exterior matte varnish.
