Decorating the Flowerpot
- Drill small holes about 1 1/2" apart around rim of flowerpot. These holes will be used for the beading.
- Paint flowerpot with gesso, both inside and out, to prepare the flowerpot for the painted finish. Allow to dry.
- Paint sides of flowerpot with Tangerine acrylic paint. Paint rim of flowerpot and at least 3" inside with Golden Straw paint. Two or more coats of paint may be necessary for good coverage. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats.
- When completely dry, spray flowerpot with Matte Varnish.
- Using a 1 to 4 ratio, mix a small amount of Burnt Umber paint into the clear glaze.
- Wet sea sponge and wring well than blot on paper towel.
- Dip sea sponge in glaze mixture and blot by tapping on a paper towel several times. Using a tapping motion, sponge glaze onto the urn. Use a light touch to achieve a stippled effect. Refill sponge as necessary, blotting on paper towel before moving to the flowerpot. Continue sponging until desired depth of color is achieved. Allow to dry.
- Spray flowerpot with a final coat of matte varnish. Allow to dry.
- Consulting photo and using your creativity, attach beads and wire to the urn, wrapping some beads with wire and adding multiple layers of beads where desired. Use a bead on the inside of the pot to anchor wire so that you can thread wire in and out using the same hole.
